Automating the check in process with NextPatient's Check In services can dramatically reduce congestion on your front desk and improve your patients' experience in the office, but what is the best method to implement this within your practice?

The Apple iPad offers two features designed around this type of situation:

  • Guide Access - This feature is designed to limit the user to certain features of the iPad and limiting others. For instance, you can lock the screen so that the home button can not close an app and even limit the screen space that a user can click.
To configure Guided Access, Apple provides this user friendly guide for enabling Guided Access: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202612. For options, be sure to turn off the Sleep/Wake button.
  • Single App Mode - This feature is the ultimate "kiosk" mode and is most beneficial in large organizations due to its setup requirements. If you office currently utilizes Apple Configurator or Mobile Device Management (MDM), this is the recommended approach. To use Single App Mode, simply provide the NextPatient Check In URL to your iPad Administrator and request they enable Single App Mode around your web browser app, preferably Chrome, and default the browser to that URL. We recommend the following settings be configured:
    • Sleep/Wake Button disabled
    • Auto-Lock disabled

Optional: Only Allow Approved Websites

To limit the iPad to only access certain sites such as your website and the check in forms, visit this page on the Apple Support Site: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201304#:~:text=Follow%20these%20steps%3A-,Go%20to%20Settings%20%3E%20Screen%20Time.,Websites%2C%20or%20Allowed%20Websites%20Only.
